Responsible To Operations Manager

Contract Study Programme (Tutor)

Salary £21k - £23k

8.45 – 5pm Mon-Thurs & 8.45 – 4.30 Friday with half an hour lunch each day

Office in Sheffield City Centre

Birthday day off

25 Days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays, further increments at 3/4/5yrs, goes up to 30 plus bank holidays

Job Purpose Our client is committed to providing high quality teaching and learning to all our learners on programme. Our programmes are designed to overcome individual barriers to learning and to re-engage both Adult and young people back into education and to support them into employment.

The role of the Functional Skills and GCSE Maths tutor is to deliver high quality and innovative Maths sessions that engage young people and meet their individual needs. The learners on our Study programme often enrol with multiple barriers to education, therefore the role also requires an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to inspire and challenge learners to help them to achieve and progress. The role also entails providing clear advice and support to ensure learners get the best from their time at our clients Training. This will include sign-posting learners to the most appropriate sources of help and guidance where appropriate.

Being able to motivate and energise young people, deliver a well-designed curriculum that leads to high achievement rates, and agree SMART targets during the learner review process, the FS and GCSE Maths Tutor will also develop learner’s employability skills and support them towards their next steps and progression routes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities Functional Skills and GCSE Maths Tutor

Enrolment and Induction

• Carry out tasks as allocated during the start of each contract year, including the enrolment of new learners throughout the year

• Contribute towards the planning and delivery of the Induction programme.

• Carry out effective diagnostic assessments of learners Maths skills during the induction period to identify the most appropriate level of Maths for them to be studying.

• Ensure effective CEIAG is carried out and use information obtained at enrolment/induction to ensure that learners programmes are planned to meet their needs

• Contribute to the planning of learners individual learning plans that meet the needs of learners and support them to move closer to their intended progression route

• Work closely with the rest of the SP team and Progress tutors to agree timetables and ensure that learners are enrolled on the most appropriate qualifications to meet their needs.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

• Manage the delivery of the FS Maths and GCSE Maths curriculum by developing a robust scheme of work and innovative session plans.

• Plan and deliver engaging Maths lessons for diverse groups or individuals in a safe and inclusive environment.

• Inspire, motivate and raise aspirations of learners through enthusiasm and excellent subject knowledge

• Be pro-active in continuously updating own skills and knowledge and identify any training and development needs

• Provide rigorous assessment and effective developmental feedback to learners via robust marking of learners work and structured verbal and written feedback.

• Consistently deliver good/outstanding teaching and learning to ensure a high quality learner experience and excellent achievement rates

• Keep group profiles up to date at all times and use this information to plan sessions that meet the needs of all learners.

• Ensure learners who have an EHCP are supported in line with their plan and their needs are met. Provide updates as requested to the Progress Tutors.

• Value and promote social and cultural diversity, equality and diversity and inclusion. Promote British Values and integrate effectively across schemes of work.

• Manage and promote positive learner behaviour in line with Our clients Behaviour and Positive Engagement Policy.

• Complete daily, accurate electronic attendance records and ensure attendance and withdrawal process is adhered to at all times. Contact learners and take an active role in ensuring learners attend programme.

• Take an active part in the sharing of ideas and good practice within the tutor team.

• Ensure English is effectively embedded into the Maths curriculum

• Ensure Work Related Skills are effectively embedded into the English curriculum.

• Support learners with their career and progression planning and advise them on how to access guidance on making informed choices

• Support learners to develop the skills they will require to undertake a work placement where appropriate

• Work closely with the Progress Tutors at all times to identify and support learners who at risk of becoming disengaged.

• Adhere to our clients FS Summative Assessment Guidance at all times.

• Adhere to our clients Disability and Access Arrangements Policy at all times.

• Plan and deliver a robust and effective tutorial programme for all learners.

• Support the exam and invigilation process as required

• Attend team meetings and 1:1 meetings as required

Individual learner progress reviews and action planning

  • Ensure contractual targets and internal business goals are achieved and that awarding body requirements are adhered at all times.
  • To provide accurate and timely formative assessment and feedback to learners, and maintain assessment records, including tracking and reporting of learner progress in line with the policy. Ensure that learners keep their own trackers up to date to show progress against their qualifications

· Complete monthly qualification target and progress reviews with learners and agree SMART targets that drive progress and lead to timely achievement of their qualification.

· Complete 2nd diagnostics with learners to demonstrate progress and inform teaching and learning.

· Responsible for Safeguarding of young people and ensuring our Safeguarding and Prevent policy and processes are adhered to at all times.

  • Ensure subject knowledge is continuously updated and this is reflected in teaching practice.

· Deal promptly and appropriately with concerns and referrals in relation to individual learner progress

· Document all meetings and communication in PICS

· Monitor the action plans/targets agreed with learners during the review sessions

· Ensure all learners achieve timely and any at risk learners are discussed with the progress tutors/management to agree completion timescales/actions.

· Refer learners to the Progress Tutors for any support/Safeguarding matters that require the input from other agencies e.g. Housing support, CSE, Drugs etc.

· Meet weekly with the Study Programme team to discuss learners progress, ensure aims are achieved timely, update timetables, agree strategies to re-engage learners, update on individual learner support needs and plan progression routes/next steps for expected leavers.

Record keeping

· En-sure all relevant records are maintained e.g. progress reviews, course changes, referrals, attendance and tracking data, awarding body information etc.

Monitoring and evaluation

· Contribute to the quality assurance and self-assessment processes within the Study Programme Team and our Training

· To commit to our quality systems and regular reviews of performance

· Be pro-active in the use of our performance data to monitor attendance

· Closely monitor the performance of learners on programme especially those who are identified as being high risk.

· Respond in a timely way to requests from management for information: e.g. learner progress, timetable updates etc.

· Produce timely and appropriate responses for performance and progress updates as requested

· Ensure that our policies and procedures are implemented at all times

· Identify any training and development needs and inform the quality manager

· Comply with GDPR and Data Protection Polices at all times

  • Paperwork – 100% accurate and timely submission of reviews, midpoint diagnostics, opening and closing of aims

· Eligibility 95% of learners become eligible at aim level and all non-starts are contacted to re-engage in line with our Attendance and Withdrawal Policy

· Caseload Management – All ‘at risk learners’ to be managed effectively from day one to ensure they attend and progress. 28-day report to be reviewed and actioned weekly. At risk learners to be re-engaged through all means

· 0% in red category

· 100% in amber actioned, letter, phone calls, parents/carers etc.

· QAR – minimum 80% FS Maths achievement rate and 70% GCSE Maths achievement rate

· Attendance – minimum 85% attendance across all sessions

· Progression – minimum 70% progression into employment or further training

· IQA – ensure all assessments are IQA in a timely manner and in line with awarding body and our processes.
