Hours: 35 hours per week – Mon – Fri (3:30pm finish on Fridays)  


My clients is a well-established leading training organisation working in and around the East Midlands. We are currently looking to recruit an experienced Trainer / Assessor within construction discipline to join their team - i.e. Painting & Decorating, Carpentry & Joinery, Brickwork, Plastering, Plumbing.


·        TAQA assessor and verifier award or equivalent

·        A L3 or equivalent qualification in a Construction discipline i.e. Painting & Decorating, Carpentry & Joinery, Brickwork, Plastering, Plumbing.

·        IOSH

·        An understanding of special education needs

Main purpose:

·        To teach, guide and support 14-18 year old learners (some with special educational needs), to enable them to achieve recognised qualifications in Construction (classroom based).

·        To work alongside the Construction team to assess and deliver multi-skilled qualifications to learners of all ages, covering all aspects of the Construction industry (work based).

·        Engage with employers to support learners throughout their training in Construction by reviewing and assessing their progress and ensuring they attend appropriate off the job training.

·        To raise the achievement of all learners, reinforcing the company’s high expectations of learners regardless of their level and results. To ensure that they have stretching targets which maintain their motivation, are focused on the challenges ahead and to encourage lifelong learning.

·        To challenge all practices and procedures within own role and throughout the organisation, to contribute to and ensure continuous improvement and quality.

Key responsibilities

·        To design, plan, produce and deliver vocational skills sessions, using I.T.  wherever necessary, to ensure all learners gain the necessary under pinning knowledge and practical skills required for their qualification. These will need to meet the needs of a variety of learners and a variety of resources will need to be used and kept up to date.

·        To work with learners and their host organisation to identify training needs and to produce and update Individual Learner Journeys.

·        To facilitate the necessary training for learners to achieve qualification framework or equivalent qualifications and provide guidance, support and coaching.

·        To review and record learners’ progress in the workplace and off the job, discussing and setting targets with the learner, the employer and others included in the learning process. To ensure the learners’ progress is in line with the other components of their framework and learner journey.

·        To complete the necessary paperwork to the standards required in our contractual obligations with the Skills Funding Agency and other agencies. To keep accurate records of assessments, planning Internal Quality Assurance and other documentation required by awarding bodies. 

·        To work with learners in conjunction with the English, Maths & ICT Trainers towards the achievement of Maths, English and ICT.

·        To utilise technology efficiently and effectively throughout the learner’s journey.

·        To deliver and plan training and/ or assessment to ensure the learner achieves aims in a timely manner.

·        To identify and recruit appropriate employers and organisations ensuring they meet the required standards for training, safety and equality.

·        To deliver training sessions to groups of learners when required.

·        To undertake duties for colleagues as and when appropriate.

·        Ensure all aspects of Equality & Diversity within Construction qualifications are delivered and keep up to date by attending any training and updates of Construction legislation that are identified by the manager.

Other duties

·        To ensure that Equality and Diversity practices are embedded in practice and promoted throughout in everyday practices with learners, employers, colleagues and other interested parties.

·        To contribute to the generation of new opportunities/business in general, ensuring that our provision reflects local communities.

·        To keep up to date with changes and to take advantage of learning opportunities to develop skills, expertise and knowledge.

·        To undertake any other duties/projects relevant to the post.

Applicants must have

·        Recent, up to date and relevant occupational experience with the capability/ flexibility to deliver more than one discipline(multi skilled)

·        Experience of guiding and supporting young people.

·        A teaching qualification

·        Driving licence and own transport

·        Knowledge/experience of qualification delivery.

·        TAQA assessor and verifier award or equivalent

Applicants should be able to

·        Communicate effectively with a range of people with a variety of needs. This will include, listening and talking with learners to identify their needs and problems and liaising and negotiating with external organisations, government departments and awarding bodies. Must be easily understood and able to get messages across diplomatically when required. Able to deliver training sessions. Able to write accurately and concisely using existing documentation and pro-formas to good effect.

·        Work as part of a team to ensure a holistic approach to the learners’ needs. This will include working with internal colleagues and others to secure the best way forward and positive outcomes for learners.

·        Organise own workload to ensure the best use is made of time and resources. This will include cost effectively planning etc. and ensuring that there is sufficient time to undertake administrative tasks to the required standard.

·        Work with the learner group. This will mean working with learners at different levels and with different needs. Must be able to select and organise the most appropriate learning/training methods, review and assess progress and provide the necessary support. Able to provide excellent customer care, treat everyone fairly and on occasions handle pressures such as distressed or misbehaving learners.


Salary: £24,000.00 - £26,000.00 - Per Annum
